1991

  • On 31st January, Rev. Fr. John Tsai Kuo-Chang who worked for more than 16 years as Mathematics teacher in Salesian School retired.
  • Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Peter Pong, the Prefect of Religious Education, we had a grand celebration of the Feast Day of Mary Help of Christians at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on 24th May.
  • On 18th September, Rev. Fr. John B. Zen was invited to officiate at the opening ceremony of 40th Anniversary of Salesian School and the extra-curricular activities exhibition.
  • On 9th October, our Annual Swimming Gala was held. Mr. Cheng On Yin, the chairman of S.S.O.B.A., was invited as our honourable guest to address the assembly and give away trophies to the winners.
  • A campaign of cleanliness and tidiness was started on 14th October.
  • On 16th November, our alumus, Professor Dominic Lam Man-Kit, Director of Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology, was invited as our guest of honour to address the assembly and present certificates in the graduation ceremony. Also we were glad to invite Mr. Thomas P. K. Kwok, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd., to present prizes and scholarships.
  • Our alumnus, Mr. Thomas P. K. Kwok, donated 400 thousand dollars for the scholarships fund and extra-curricular activities fund.
  • On 9th December, Rev. Fr. John B. Kwan and Rev. Fr. Paul Fong were invited to share their experiences of faith with teachers and students on the Feast day of the Immaculate Conception.
  • On 23rd December, out alumnus Rev. Fr. Joseph Wong Hak-Pin was invited to address the school community at the Christmas celebration.

1992

  • The Open day Exhibition was held on 11th and 12th January. Mr. Y. T. Li. CBE, JP., the Director of Education, Rev. Fr. John B. Zen, the Provincial of Salesians of Don Bosco (China Province) and Mr. Thomas Kwok, the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd., were invited to officiate at the opening ceremony. The Annual Dinner Party was held on 12th January.
  • The Annual Athletic Meet was held on 21st January. Our alumnus Mr. Yu Hon Kee was invited to address and present prizes.
  • An "Outstanding Youth Award" was organized by the District Office and Eastern District Board. Our student Mak Ka Hoi (F.5C) won the award and was invited with some District Board members to visit Singapore during the Lunar New Year Holidays and to share experience with other Award winners. Besides, Chow Man Chit (F.6M) and Lam Li Hung (F.6M) got a special prize in this Youth Award Competition.
  • Our School team came into the final of Inter-School Quiz competition organized by the Housing Department and Radio Television Hong Kong. Three team members: Ho Chee Hei, Wong Wai Leung and Chan Chi Kan were invited to visit Singapore with other finalists. In the end, our school was the champion.
  • Rev. Fr. Norbert Tse was invited to preside at a Holy Mass for the Feast of Don Bosco on 31st January.
  • Our Annual Thanksgiving Day was held on 21st and 22nd February. We were glad to invite Mr. Lam Fat Shing and Mr. Tong Ken Min, representatives of the Parents Association, to address the assembly during the Evening Variety Show on honour of parents.
  • The glamour of HOMECOMING DAY for old boys on 25th April was successful in as much as participants showed involvement and contribution.
  • The school magazine would be published at the end of May.
  • The Feast Day of Mary Help of Christians would be held on 22nd May. His Eminence, Cardinal John B. Wu was invited to officiate the Holy Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
  • Mr. K. C. Yip, the: President of S.S.O.B.A., was invited to address the closing ceremony of 40th Anniversary of Salesian School on 10th July.
  • Rev. Fr. Peter K. L. Ho was invited to address the opening ceremony of the new academic year on 1st September.
  • Mr. Martin Lee, the legislator ,was invited to deliver a speech in our school on 29th September. He highly appreciated our contribution and effort done in education
  • The 27th Annual Swimming Gala was held at Victoria Swimming Pool on 14th October. Very Rev. Fr. Antonio Martinelli, the General Councillor for" Salesian Family and Social Communication, was invited as our honourable guest to address the assembly and present prizes.
  • Some officers from the Hong Kong Society for the Aged came on 17th December to propagandize their activities on Taking Care of the Elderly.

1993

  • The Hong Kong Red Cross sent some officers to our school on 15th January to organize the blood donation. It was successful since many students participated enthusiastically in this school function.
  • The 39th Annual Athletic Meet was held at Wanchai Sports Ground on 9th February. Our alumnus, Mr. Paul W. H. Tsui was invited to address the assembly and present trophies to the winners.
  • An inter-class story-telling competition on Chinese History was held on 21st April. It aimed at encouraging students to learn and imitate the virtue of great and good men through history.
  • On 23rd April, an inter-class quiz competition on Chinese History was held in order to help students understand the aims of history.
  • On 17th May, a campaign of cleanliness was boosted. Attitudes on keeping our school clean and environmental conservation were encouraged.
  • On 10th August, Ho Shing Yan gained 10 distinctions in H.K.C.E.E.
  • The 28th Annual swimming Gala was held in Victoria Swimming Pool on 11th October. Rev. F Nobert Tse was invited to address the assembly. All prizes and trophies were sponsored by our alumnus, Mr. T. K. Wong.
  • Mr. Michael Leung, C.B.E., J.P., Secretary of Education and Manpower, was invited as our honorable guest to officiate at the Annual Speech Day on 19th November. It was also our honour that Mr. Thomas P. K. Kwok, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, promised to present the certificates in the assembly and donate $500,000 for setting up the foundation of scholarships fund.

1994

  • The 40th Annual Athletic Meet was held on 13th January and Our alumnus, Mr. Anthony P. H. Ip, the Contracts Manager of Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd., was invited for the prize presentation.
  • Our teaching staff and students were unanimous to participate in the blood donation on 17th January.
  • On 18th January, a three-day book exhibition was held in our school hall. An unprecedented success was beyond all praise.
  • On 17th March, the seminar on The Use of Preventive Strategy on Today's Education was organized for teachers and parents. Fr. Simon Lam C.W., the Principal of St. Louis School was invited to give a speech on this topic.
  • Eight students from our school obtained the Grantham Scholarship from the Education Department on 18th April.
  • Rev. Fr. T. Panakezham, Regional Councillor of Salesian Society was invited for the celebration of the Feast Day of Mary Help of Christians at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on 24th May.
  • Graduation Dinner was held at Omni Hong Kong Hotel on 10th June.
  • Education officials from China, especially from Zhejiang, Jiannsu, Anhui and Liaoning, visited out school on 30th June for academic purpose.
  • The 29th Annual Swimming Gala was held on 4th October. Our alumnus Mr. W Y. Yiu was invited to address the assembly and present prizes.
  • Dr. Simon Leung, Director & Principal of Ebenezer School & Home for the Blind, was invited as our guest of honour to address the assembly and present certificates in the Annual Speech Day on 5th November. Also we were glad to invite Mr. Peter K. C. Yip, the President of S.S.O.B.A., to present prizes and certificates.

1995

  • The 41st Annual Athletic Meet was held on 20th January. It was our honour to invite our alumnus Mr. T. W. Choi to address the assembly and present prized.
  • The seminar on The Importance of Religious Studies and Ethic Culture in Education was organized for teachers and parents on 13th March. Fr. Simon Lam C.W. was invited to deliver a speech on this topic.
  • The Graduation Dinner was held at Excelsior Hotel from our graduates on 1st June.
  • It was honourable to invite the following guests to address the Break Ground Ceremony of our School Expansion and Alteration Project on 10th August:

  • The new academic year started on 4th September. Rev. Fr. Peter K. L. Ho was succeeded as Provincial of China Province of the Salesian Society of Don Bosco. Rev. Fr. Joseph C. C. So served as the school supervisor cum principal.
  • Two students because of their best results in HKCEE obtained the Grantham Scholarships from the Education Department on 4th October.
  • The 30th Annual Swimming Gala was held. Mr. Eric P. S. Kwok, Managing Director of Pofield Real Estate Co. Ltd., was invited as our guest of honour for the prizes presentation.
  • On 2nd November, some tenure teachers of St. Paul's College from the Philippines came to our school for the academic purpose.
  • Fund Raising activities for our School Expansion and Alteration Project were prepared to organize on 6th November.
  • The performance from the orchestral instructors of Music Office was organized for F.2 students on 7th November.
  • Mr. Louis Tong, Acting Principal Magistrate, was invited as our honourable guest to address the assembly and present certificates and prizes in the Annual Speech Day on 18th November.
  • Br. Aloysius C. K. Tam was invited to share his experiences of faith with teachers and students on the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception on 7th December.
  • The 42nd Annual Athletic Meet was held at Wanchai Sports Ground on 9th December. Our alumnus Mr. Francis Leung, Managing Director of Peregine Capital Ltd., was invited to address the assembly and present prizes.

1996

  • One of the fund raising activities for our school expansion project, the Homecoming Day for old boys, was held on 7th January. This activity, the walkathon, was started at our school and ended at Lei Yu Mun Country Park. It was successful as every participant enjoyed his happiness in the day camp at Lei Yu Mun Country Park.
  • Rev. Fr. Joseph C. C. So was invited to preside at the Holy Mass for the Feast of Don Bosco on 26th January.
  • The Annual Thanksgiving Day was held on 26th and 27th January.
  • On 26th February Very Rev. Fr. Peter K. L. Ho, Provincial of China Province of the Salesian Society of Don Bosco, was invited to preside the blessing ceremony of the school extension. It was also inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Joseph C. C. So, our school supervisor cum principal. Many teaching staff and students were attending in the ceremony.
  • The seminar on Lifelong Education and Career and Extra Curricular Activities was organized for teachers and parents on 15th March, Fr. Simon Lam C. W., Principal of St. Louis School, was invited to give a talk on the related topic. Group discussion was held after the seminar. Suggestions from the groups were edited and collected in the teaching handbook.
  • It was honourable to invite the following guests to address our school open day exhibition for the school extension cum 45th anniversary of the school foundation on May 4: Mr. C. K. Tam, Chief Education officer (Hong Kong Region), Very Rev. Fr. Peter K. L. Ho, Provincial of China Province of the Salesian Society of Don Bosco, Mr. Thomas P. K. Kwok, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited.
  • The dinner party for celebrating the school expansion and alteration was held at Hopewell Restaurant on May 5.
  • Form 3 pupils won the Championship in the 14th Careers Quiz, organized by the Labour Department.
  • Form 6 pupils, Chiu Kwok Kong and Ho Ka Shun were awarded the Grantham Scholarship for their outstanding performance in the H.K.C.E.E.
  • Out of hundreds of contestants, our school table tennis team was the 2nd runners-up and received a computer as a prize from the sponsor.
  • The Computer Society of our school joined the Joint School Exhibition of Electronics and Computer Association in August at the Science Museum. Out of 20 contestants, our school team came second overall. The team also got the award for showing the most creativity and the Best Hardware Design award.
  • In September, Rev. Louis Cheung was appointed as Prefect of Religious Education.
  • Alumni of our school, Messrs. S. L. Tai, W M. Lau and W S. Ngan demonstrated excellent achievement in academic pursuits and were openly acclaimed in letters of appreciation from their respective universities. — On 30th November, the return to their Alma Mater of more than 50 graduates of 1976, with their families, warmed the school. The dinner was held in the Ming Wah Restaurant and the representative S. W. Yu donated Rev. Joseph So forty thousand dollars as a grant for the school fees of needy pupils.

1997

  • In August, Form 7 pupil Chiu Kwok Kong outdid other competitors and won the Lee Shau Kee scholarship and was sent to Wadham College, Oxford University, U.K. He was the second student to go there just after a former schoolmate, Mr. H. B. Lee who went three years before. Mr. H. B. Lee got 1st Class Honours in the aforesaid University.
  • In summer, our School team was the 2nd runners-up in the Science Exhibition Contest in Hong Kong.
  • Concurrently, the Geography and Conservancy Society won the championship in the contest of the Joint School Environmental Exhibition. It defeated 18 school teams with an exhibit named "How to cultivate scrubs".
  • In September, the Salesian School Old Boys Association sponsored the installation of a LCD projector and screen in the school hall.
  • Two members of the football team of our school, C. S. Ho and L. H. Lo, were chosen as the representatives of the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation. They had to undergo intensive training and participate in the 26th Asian Student Football Contest in September.
  • The Very Rev. Juan Vecchi, Rector Major, visited our school on 9th of October, and Rev. Chinnappa, a Salesian priest from India, during his visit, promoted cultural exchange between China and India.
  • In November, W. M. Lau from the Engineering Faculty in H.K.U. and K. C. Kwok from Political and Administration Department of C.U.H.K. received letters of appreciation from their respective universities.
  • In December, our school failed to be listed in the 100 EMI schools announced by the Education Department.

1998

  • In March, the Education Department and the Appeals Committee (Medium of Instructions Guidance) declined our appeal for EMI status.
  • The Basketball teams of our school, B grade and C grade, beat other school teams from: Wah Yan College, Queen's College, King's College, Chinese International School... The teams acquired their highest level of honour for the first time by gaining the title of overall 1st runners-up.
  • In July, Mr. Go Kim Guam retired after more than 30 years of service.
  • In August, our school sent a team of Science students to join the 31st Joint School Science Exhibition. The theme of the exhibition was " Conflict, Advancement, Harmony". Our exhibit was "the Slanbus Pro"- the design of a model bus. After hours of laborious work, our team came first and was the overall champion. They also earned other titles, such as "Most Popular Project", "Best Proposal Award", "Outstanding Demonstration Award", and the "Best Demonstrator (Y. F. Cheng)".
  • Our school Grade B basketball team participated in the Basketball Marathon Tournament organized by Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation and was the 2nd runners-up out of 128 teams. Their skills at basketball were really to be admired.
  • In September, Rev. Joseph So followed medical advice and suspended his tenure of office. Rev. Peter Ng was appointed as the School Supervisor, Rev. Andrew Ng as the School Principal and Rev. Domingos Leong as the Prefect of Religious Education.
  • In summer, the computer team of our school participated again in the Joint School Computer Exhibition. The team gained the title of "the most popular stall".
  • C. H. Wu, a Form 5 pupil, acquired the honour of the Chief Scout Award in scouting activities. The scouts in 17th HKG had bot received the award for more than 20 years.
  • This was the year for Artwork. The pupils got prizes from:
    • Poster design for Fire Prevention
    • Poster design against illegal hawkers
    • Chinese Calligraphy competitions for primary and secondary schools

1999

  • In May, Rev. Andrew Ng retired from office because of ill health, Rev. Joseph So resumed as the Principal.
  • The school football team regained the title of overall champions in the Inter-School Football Competition, Division II (Hong Kong Island and Kowloon). The team was also promoted to Division I.
  • An ad hoc group was formed to build a straw bridge in a contest organized by the Department of Physics and Materials Science, City University. From among 500 contestants, our school team came second in the senior group as the members were able to build the second longest straw bridge to carry the weight of one can of soft drinks, as stipulated.
  • Owing to the outstanding performance of "The Slanbus Pro" in the exhibition, our school team was elected as the Hong Kong representatives to participate in the Joint Schools Science Exhibition of pan-pacific countries in Taiwan. The team brought honour to our school again by coming third in the competition.
  • In order to comply with the IT policy of the Education and Manpower Bureau, our school invested capital to build one language laboratory and one multi-media room. The local area network was also installed, including a system of video broadcasting and cyber-classrooms controllable by computers.
  • On 23rd of September, an alumnus who graduated in 1972, C. Y. Kwok, an IT teacher of a renowned catholic school in Melbourne, Australia, was invited by the Principal to share his experience on Information Technology with our teaching staff.
  • In September, the Education Department subsidized 1 million and 200 thousand dollars to upgrade our computer facilities in the library, the staff room, and to provide a computer network and equipment. However, as the money could not cover all expenses, Mr. P. K. Kwok, an alumnus, generously supported the scheme. In consequence, by the end of the year, our school had a fully furnished language laboratory and a multi-media room, each equipped with more than 40 computers, a visualizer, LCD projector and a smartboard.
  • In October, letters of appreciation were sent to acclaim the good academic performances of our old boys in their respective universities. They were, namely, M. K. Lee, W. C. Ng, W. H. Leung, C. B. Cheng, S. Martin, C. N. Ng, S. K. Tang and W. K. Wong.

2000

  • In January, K. C. Cheung, C. W. Chin, C. Y. Fong, M. K. Lee, S. B. Lui, L. T. Wong, K. W. Tang and H. K. Tsuei were honoured by their respective universities in letters of appreciation to our school.
  • Our school choir won the championship of Plain Song, at the School Music Festival in 1999. The choir won this title again this year.
  • In April, the language laboratory and the multi-media room were named after their benefactors. They were Mr. T S. Kwok (language laboratory) and Mr. P. K. Kwok (multi-media room). The network was recently upgraded to broadband. Teachers can utilize the facilities in the staff computer room.
  • The staff training scheme was implemented according to the IT policy. — Y. P. Kao of Form 6B was elected as the best debater in the Joint School English Debating Competition.
  • Mr. P. K. Kwok, graduate in 1969, was invited to officiate at the opening ceremony of the two IT rooms on 24th May 2000. He shared his social experience with the Form six pupils after the ceremony.
  • The Salesian Society extended its mission of faith to Mainland China. Some Salesians had to go north. There was also the problem of retirement due to age. There was a short supply of manpower in the society.
  • In September, the Provincial Rector appointed Mr. Peter Y. T. Lam, the vice-principal, as the Acting Principal. Rev. Joseph. So took up the duty of Supervisor of the Primary and Secondary schools. Rev. Peter Ng was transferred to St. Louis School.
  • Dr. M. C. Ng, a graduate in 1978, now the assistant professor in Institute of Textiles and Clothing, Polytechnic University, was conferred with a doctorate degree by the Royal Academy of Arts, London. His dissertation may have been the first research in fashion design since the establishment of the Royal Academy.
  • Our clerk, Mr. C. W. Li retired after 37 years of service.
  • At the 52nd Hong Kong Speech Festival in November, six of our students gained high placements (Three were second runners-up, Two were first runners-up and one, Wesley Chan in Form 2 was the winner of his section).
