1981

  • "Walk for a Dollar", a fund raising campaign, was organized by S.S.O.B.A. Our school won the prize for the largest number of participants and the prize for the largest fund.
  • Mr. Siu Pui Tak who had worked in our school since 1959 retired from service on 30th June.
  • Rev. Fr. A. Mak completed his tenure of office. Rev. Fr. John. Bosco Fung, who had been the Prefect of Studies of Salesian Technical and Industrial School in Taiwan and Yuet Wah College in Macau, was appointed as the Principal of the Primary Section.

1982

  • S.S.O.B.A. presented an audio system to the school.

1983

  • Our teacher Mr. Wong Chick Yuen retired.
  • On 17th December our Chinese debating team came third in a territory-wide debating competition. The team members were also invited by Radio Television Hong Kong to demonstrate debating skills on an E.T.V. programme.
  • Mr. K. C. Lo, a very experienced teacher of the Primary Section, retired.

1984

  • On 25th September, the 19th Annual Swimming Gala was held. Rev. Fr. Alexander Ma was invited as our guest of honour. He addressed the assembly and presented prized for the occasion.
  • 17th November was the 25th Speech Day of our school. Rev. Fr. Ercole Tiberi was invited to address the assembly and present certificates and prizes for our students.

1985

  • The grand celebration of the Secondary Section's Silver Jubilee was held on 12th January. A banquet was held that evening in a Wanchai restaurant to celebrate the event.
  • The School Open Day was held on 13th December.
  • Our 31st Annual Athletic Meet was held in Wanchai Sports Ground on 22nd January. Mr. Cavenagh, Chief inspector of Wong Tai sin District Royal H.K. Police Force, was invited to address the assembly and present prizes. He was a past pupil of a Salesian school in England.

1986

  • The grand celebration of the Feast Day of Don Bosco was held on 31st January. Rev. Fr. John B. Tsang, Vicar-General, was invited to preside at a Holy Mass.
  • On 7th March, a special programme was dedicated to Rev. Fr. Clement Wong who was going to complete the tenure of office as the Supervisor.
  • An S.S.O.B.A publication, "S.S.O.B.A. NEWS". made its debut on 7th June. — Rev. Fr. Joseph Cheng succeeded Rev. Fr. Clement Wong as the Supervisor in mid-August.

1987

  • The Annual Thanksgiving Day was celebrated on 6th March. The day was followed by a Thanksgiving Night Variety Show. One thousand and seven hundred dollars from admission tickets were donated to a charitable organization for the homeless.
  • Our school came second in a quiz competition organized by Commercial Radio Hong Kong and the Housing Department
  • In June, forty Form 5 students participated in the Leadership Training Camp organized by Fr. Joseph Cheng, Mr. Leung Wai Man and Form-teachers.
  • Teachers and students in Salesian School contributed generously to the relief of the victims of a disastrous fire in Mohe (Heilong Jiang, China).
  • In mid-July, our staff and students visited the Vietnamese refugees in Fu Tei Centre, Tuen Mun.

1988

  • The grand opening ceremony of DB88 was held at Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Wanchai, on 31st January. It was followed by an evening variety entertainment. Our school participation was unprecedented. As many as two hundred of our students and teachers took part in this performance.
  • A Joint Athletic Meet for the Salesian Schools in Hong Kong and Macau was held on 8th February at the Government Stadium. Our school carried off the overall Champion and the 'A Grade' Champion.
  • The DB88 Joint School Teachers' Day was held on 29th February. This provided an opportunity for the exchange of teaching experience.
  • In May, Rev. Fr. T. Panakezham, Regional Councillor of the Salesian Society, came to the school on an official visit. He addressed the school in a morning assembly and he urged us to emulate the spirit of Don Bosco.

1989

  • A special celebration of the Salesian Society was held at Hong Kong Coliseum on 29th January. Rector Major, Very Rev. Fr. Egidio Vigaro addressed the opening ceremony through the video transmission.
  • Teachers and Students paid tribute through the press to those who sacrificed their lives in the 4th June incident.
  • In September, both Rev. Fr. Joseph Cheng and Rev. Fr. Joseph Ho completed their tenure of office. Rev. Fr. Jacob Yu and Rev. Fr. Joseph So succeeded as the Supervisor and the Principal respectively.

1990

  • The Annual Thanksgiving Day was held on 16th February. Members of the staff who had worked for more than 20 years were presented with a trophy to encourage their services in Salesian School.
  • Due to the various changes of educational policy (Joint University and Polytechnic Admission, innovations on H.K.C.E.E. and A Level syllabus) a School Curriculum Advisory committee was set up in May to discuss, evaluate and advise to the school authority.
  • One of our students Leung Kwok Sing, got five distinctions in the Advanced Level Examination.
  • In the same period, both Yeung Chi Hang and Ng Tai Kong gained 9 distinctions in H.K.C.E.E. Their excellent performances hit the headlines of the press.
  • The Secondary Section underwent a revolution by employing lady teachers.
  • The South China Morning Post carried an article on 24th September to praise the successful performance of our school in the public examinations.
  • On 15th October, the student union of Chinese University Hong Kong sent a representative to our school to stress the importance of environmental conservation and green power.
  • The orchestral instructors of Music Office called on our school on 22nd October.
  • Our alumnus Mr. Cheung Kai Cheung, Executive Secretary of the Open Learning Institute was invited as our honourable guest to address the assembly on the Speech Day of our school on 10th November.
